KLINIKEN SCHMIEDER

Kliniken Schmieder was founded by Professor Friedrich Schmieder in 1950.  Initially a very small private clinic of some 20 beds.  In 1952, a department for brain-injured war wounded was added and as a result of this, the main emphasis of care became the treatment of brain damage.

A team of approx. 60 Doctors, including specialists within the fields of Neurology, Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, General Medicine, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Social- and Rehabilitation Medicine and Geriatrics, take care of the patients.  A total of 1300 staff take care of up to 860 patients.

GOALS

  • The recovery of function and guidance towards self help

  • The improvement of reduced ability by use of compensatory strategies

  • The adaptation to altered capabilities and education towards better health behaviour

RE-TRAINING OF THE BRAIN

Following a 24 hour concept, a multi-disciplinary therapy programme is especially designed to meet the needs of each patient and is accomplished by:-

  • Stabilisation of systemic functions

  • Training of motor functions

  • Training of linguistic and mental functions

  • Assisting with the psychological re-adjustment

  • Training/re-training for vocational integration
