Wayne & his Mum in Germany

Wayne arrived back from Germany on Thursday 12 December at about 7.00 pm.  The local media were in attendance, along with family and friends.  A surprise welcome home party had been organised, and Wayne looked well thrilled, grinning from ear to ear!!

Since Wayne moved from Bath to Southampton, Wayne was denied therapy.  He was deemed to have "plateaud" and (in their opinion) would not benefit from therapy.

From the moment Wayne arrived in Germany, he was having therapy every day!!    He had to work so hard, his every muscle agonising from the effort and lack of use.

Whilst in Germany, Wayne was given the use of an electric wheelchair, and he really enjoyed the sense of freedom and being in control that it gave him.  Big grin constantly on his face and loads of chuckling and laughter when he crashed into something or someone!!

At the clinic, Wayne was also given the opportunity to use an exercise bike, was even weight training, and had a prosthesis leg made to measure!

Wayne had covered so much ground in Germany that, Ted Le Broc, who is Wayne's Physiotherapist at Peartree House in Southampton, believes the therapists in Germany incredibly put Wayne through one year's worth of physio in two months!!!

A rigorous therapy programme was put in place for Wayne's return and this is toning his body back up, building his leg muscles back up, making his torso stronger and straighter, improving his heart rate, circulation, etc, etc.

From money donated to The Wayne Howard Appeal Fund, a special exercise bike has been purchased for Wayne, and this allows him to exercise his leg, and his arms, everyday.  Also, a very special electric wheelchair is on order and awaiting delivery.  This chair will even assist Wayne in standing upright, and allow him to feel part of a group and look them in the eye!!

All this, is merely the first step in a very long journey, to Wayne's recovery.   However, with his amazing grit and determination, the love and support from his partner, Tracy, and his 3 sons, Jayd, Jordon and Connor, along with the support and prayers of all of you out there, we know Wayne is going to reach his full potential, despite all the negative predictions!!
